Dark circle

Dark circle is the pigmentation mark in your skin that is different from the natural skin tone. It is prevalent in specific areas of the face, mainly under the eyes. Dark circles are present as spots or marks in your facial skin caused mainly by fatigue, stress and lesser amounts of sleep. Overworking causes dark circles which needs to be removed from the skin to maintain a good skin and help your skin to glow. Aging is another important factor for dark circles and aged persons develop more dark circles compared to the younger ones. It is generally not a medical problem, caused by lifestyle disorders and can be prevented by taking proper care and treating your skin with proper skin care products. However, inflammation of the skin can also cause dark circles. Hyperpigmentation is another leading reason of dark circle formation and people with hyperpigmentation issues have increased chances of dark circle generation. Although it is not a medical condition, but accumulation of dark circle in the facial skin is not desired as that causes a shade to your natural skin colour and makes the skin look dull. It is essential to remove dark circles in its early days of formation, otherwise if accumulated in greater amounts, it will be far more difficult to get rid of.

The exposure of the skin to ever increasing load of pollutants in the environment also elevates the rate of dark circle formation. Pollutants causes skin exhaustion which in turn leads to dark circle formation. Another important contributor to the formation of dark circles under your eyes is the increased screen time, that is the amount of time you spend in front of your smartphone or laptop or computer or television. In current days, where work culture is mostly based on digital devices, this problem is therefore increasing like never before. During lockdown also, people are mostly keeping them busy by watching television or by watching shows on different online platforms which is also increasing the skin time exposure, eventually elevating the event of dark circle formation.

As the areas under and circling the eye are affected the most in this regard, the condition of dark circle formation is also named as periorbital hyperpigmentation. Biological conditions which have been found to increase the rate of formation of dark circle are: anaemia, pregnancy period, and fatigue. Skin diseases like eczema or itching which causes the frequent rapid rubbing of skin also elevates the risk factor.
